Hechalutz, an innovative Jewish education project, is dedicated to fostering meaningful connections between Israel and the Jewish Diaspora.
At Hechalutz, we recognize the growing distance between Jewish youth, young adults and Israel. We bridge this gap by offering engaging programs and educational experiences in both Israel and the Diaspora. Hechalutz has been working for twenty years with gap year programs, young adults, lay leaders and grass roots activists.

Hannah Faber
UK Partnerships Manager
Hannah Faber is from Calgary, Canada and grew up at Habonim Dror Camp Miryam in British Columbia. “My years in the movement taught me the importance of taking responsibility over things that are important to me and in my case the Jewish people and Israel were aways the most important things to me. I am responsible for being an educational consultant and leader for the HDUK movement- acting as a living connection between Israel and the movement in HDUK. As antisemitism has grown in the diaspora, it is even more important to me that Jews feel the sense of shared future. We have a responsibility for eachother- we need to have each other's back.”

Tamar Levi
Director of Shoah Education
Tamar Levi grew up in Victoria, BC and attended Camp Miriam. She was an active member of Habonim Dror North America while completing her degree at McGill University. She made aliyah in 2010 and joined Dror Israel's Kibbutz Eshbal as a member and educator. She worked in World Habonim Dror coordinating Israel programs for many years before transitioning into coordinating activities for Habonim Dror's sister movement in Israel, Hanoar Haoved v'Halomed. Additionally, she leads educational trips to Poland and facilitates workshops on the Holocaust. She most recently served as the Central Shlicha for Habonim Dror North America from 2021-2023.

Avigal Kazula
Chief Financial Officer
Avigal is our Finance Manager, with a background in education and years of 'on-the-ground' community outreach work. “I've always been driven by social impact. After the war began, I pivoted toward the operational side of NGOs. I stepped into this role seeking a change of pace, but quickly found that logistics and financial structures have a big role in turning inspiring visions into reality. As Finance Manager, I’m the organizational 'go-to' for solving problems and keeping the gears turning. I bridge the gap between our budget and our impact, navigating a steep learning curve to ensure every activity is backed by a clear financial strategy and resourceful solutions, so that our amazing team can do the best work they possibly can in the community. When I’m not balancing budgets, I’m usually tending to my houseplants, practicing yoga, or styling a beautiful table spread for friends and family. I’m a fan of a good book, a glass of whiskey, and anything with ginger.”

Daniel Crook
Youth Movement Director
Daniel is our Youth Movement Director, working closely with Zionist Youth Movements to help strengthen their voices. Daniel made Aliyah in 2013, and believes that education is the tool for youth to grapple with the state of Israel and the Zionist Youth Movements ability to rebuild the Zionist Labour Movement. Daniel guides youth movement leaders around the world, collaborates with them around their challenges and needs. Daniel designs and facilitates Hechalutz programming to guide youth movements growing and thriving. Daniel lives in Akko, although his heart truly belongs to Tel Aviv. Despite that he aspires to one day call a Shitufi Kibbutz his home.

Zev Dever
Head of Partnerships
Zev is our partnerships coordinator with two decades of experience leading progressive Zionist education across diverse communities in Israel and the Jewish world. "The Son of two prominent star crossed Israeli archeologists, Zev’s connection to Israel is personal, familial and sort of ancient. Having already established a burgeoning resume in Jewish educational Leadership Zev made Aliyah in 2014 to continue to deepen his relationship and work with the Jewish people. Today he lives in The Educators Kibbutz in Mitzpe Ramon with his wife and 1 year old daughter. Zev’s experience working with both diaspora groups from across the english speaking world and high school students from every sector of Israeli society makes him ideally suited for tailoring educational partnerships to build bridges across communities. When he’s not interfacing with likeminded orgs, you can usually find Zev mountain-biking through the hills in the Negev, or building custom furniture in his Kibbutz’s educational wood-shop, and he’d be happy to show you around Mitzpe Ramon."

Katie Felstein
"Shorashim" Program Director
Katie runs our Shorashim programme, bringing her passion for Judaism, Socialist-Zionism and informal education from her background as Mazkira of Habonim Dror UK to her new life in Israel since making aliya in January 2024. "My years of running Habonim Dror UK taught me about youth empowerment, leadership and ideological education based in Socialist-Zionist values. This led me to my decision of making aliya and working in HeChalutz in order to inspire the Jewish youth who come on our programmes to feel a deep sense of commitment to becoming leaders of their communities. As Educational Director of the Shorashim programme, I build and facilitate our programming about Israeli Society, Jewish History and Zionism. I believe that bringing engaging methods and diverse narratives based on Socialist-Zionist principles allows our chanichim to form their own Jewish and Zionist identities that they can feel confident in when returning home. I do this work because for me, there is nothing more meaningful and interesting than shaping and being shaped by the Jewish youth who I am privileged to work with. In my free time, I love listening to Taylor Swift, eating yum food in Tel Aviv and going to the park on Shabbat to hang out with my friends."
